It’s Going to be Fine…In Fact, It’s Actually Going to Be Great

It’s Going to be Fine…In Fact, It’s Actually Going to Be Great

Mom Life
Tonight was orientation for all four of my kids at school. Having them sit still and quiet during the information session plus fight the madness of a classroom full of kids, parents and siblings made for a very busy night. In the preschool room where my youngest is going to start I couldn’t help but notice the parents with one kid and the excitement, full attention and non-rushed vibe. Then I looked at myself with bags slung across every possible body part and my kids with brimming backpacks complaining about waiting fooooorrrrrrrever to go to their classrooms. Instead of the full attention and non-rushed vibe my kid got a strung out mom. A mom that knowingly fully skipped the scavenger hunt around the room in order to finish each classroom…

[From Dr. Matt] We can relate…really... Tonight was one of those nights...around 5pm when we got back from the park, my almost 2-year-old felt really warm and all he wanted was to be held. My four-year-old was still 'bouncing off the walls' saying, "I'm hungry, when is dinner gonna be ready," at the same time as he is messing up the pantry looking to get a snack for himself. At about the same time I look over at my 7-year-old is holding his tummy lying on the couch.  A quick parental analysis...two potentially sick kids, one hungry and did I mention my wife just left for work, so I'm on my own. Without taking time to think, I made a quick dinner while holding 'baby' (we all still call him…

You Stress, I Stress, We All Stress Together! Hey Parents – how are you? No, seriously answer the question this time. Don’t just use auto-pilot to kick out the “Great!” or “Busy!” or “Good!” that we all too often spit out when asked that question, when all too often we don’t really mean it. It’s my belief that most people really mean “could be better that’s for sure” when saying “Great or Good” and also really mean “I’m losing my mind, exhausted, and this pain in my neck and shoulders is literally killing me!” when they instead say “busy”! So, what gives? Why do we do that? I tried to address this topic on a Facebook Live video yesterday, and it just didn’t land right. Live video is sometimes hard…

The Wrinkly Love of my Life

The Wrinkly Love of my Life

Mom Life
Today, my favorite person turns 36. The number that’s officially closer to 40 than 30. We went out for dinner and drinks at his favorite brewery to celebrate and we couldn’t stop laughing while trying to take a selfie that didn’t showcase our wrinkles. I know there are certain angles and tips and tricks to minimize them but the truth is, I just don’t care. Those wrinkles might have started developing one of the times Tony couldn’t take his eyes off of me with a brand new baby cradled in my arms. Or maybe it was the time he caught my eye, smiling across the room with a stage 4 disaster thrown across the floor between us and four naked kiddos we were trying to wrangle into bed. When that…

I AM a Fun Mom

I AM a Fun Mom

Mom Life
I had a moment last night of panic that summer is passing quickly and I haven’t been very fun . I spent the last few days demanding help from the kids to have their rooms clean, telling them it wasn’t good enough, and barreling in to take over while being very clear with my disappointment they didn’t do it perfect. Sometimes I have flashbacks to my childhood years where I’m hiding around the corner with my three brothers and we are trying so hard not to laugh and get in more trouble but it’s near impossible as our mom is on a tirade and freaking out over what we always deemed “nothing.” At this point I know my kids are in another room discussing what a psycho their mom is…

The 3C’s of Sensory & Spectrum Disorders After 10 years of caring for sensory and spectrum kiddos, and about 15 years of constantly reading and learning everything there is to know about them, I can tell you that they really struggle with three main elements of life that all start with the letter C. In turn, when the right forms of care are applied, the right protocols and methods used, these “3C’s” drastically improve, thus greatly increasing the child’s quality of life. And we all know that when the child gets better with these 3 elements, life for the whole family gets better! CALMING. This article is not one meant to spell out the entire scientific mechanisms behind sensory and spectrum disorders (that’s what the Perfect Storm workshop does), but…

Sleep Tip from Dr. Tony

Sleep Tip from Dr. Tony

Health Tip, Lifestyle, PWC Team
Dear Parents - Seriously it is maddening when your kiddos struggle to sleep! You know their tired, and you're tired - so fire hits fire and it just gets worst. Something, someone has to give. There's all sorts of strategies out there to help your child sleep better, and you as well! Start with learning them yourself, and then do all you can to help your child learn and apply them. More sleep means better health for everyone! Quick tip - start earlier. For years people thought we were "crazy" because our kids have such early bed times, but now every kid has great sleep habits and in turn that allows my wife and I more quality time together AND the ability to get to bed early and get quality…
